Blocking Unwanted Inbound Calls

Receiving unwanted, harassing, or scam calls can be disruptive for any business. TNZ provides a simple and effective tool to prevent specific numbers from contacting your TNZ phone or fax lines. By adding a caller's number to your Inbound Opt-Out List, their calls will be blocked at the network level before they ever reach you.

When a blocked number attempts to call your TNZ service, the caller will hear a disconnected tone, and your phone will not ring.

This guide will walk you through the steps to add a number to your block list.

How to Block a Caller

Follow these steps to block a specific phone number:

  1. Log in to the TNZ Dashboard.

  2. From the left-hand menu, navigate to Service Settings.

  3. Click on Opt-Out List (Inbound).

  4. Click the Create button to add a new entry to your block list.

You will be presented with two fields:

  • Called Number: From the drop-down menu, select your TNZ number that you wish to block the caller from reaching.

  • Caller Number: Enter the phone number of the person or entity you want to block.

Formatting the Caller Number

It is crucial to format the Caller Number correctly for the block to be effective.

  • The number must be in full international format.

  • Include the country code.

Correct Examples:

  • To block a New Zealand mobile: 64210000000

  • To block an Auckland landline: 6491234567

  • To block a number from Australia: 61400000000

  • To block a number from the United States: 12125550123

  1. Once you have entered the details correctly, click Save.

The block is effective immediately. Any subsequent calls from the specified Caller Number to the selected Called Number will be rejected and the caller will hear Disconnected Tone.

Managing Your Block List

On the Opt-Out List (Inbound) page, you can view all your existing block entries.

  • To Remove a Block: Simply open an entry in the list and click the Delete button. The block will be removed instantly and the number will be able to call you again.

  • Blocking Multiple Numbers: To block more than one number, you must create a separate entry for each one. The system does not support blocking a range of numbers or using wildcards.
