What is a SMS Header or SMS Footer?
A Header is presented at the top of your SMS message and a Footer is presented at the bottom.
When these features are enabled, your SMS format will look like this:
[Header]
[Message]
[Footer]
Each section is separated by a line break, making your message easy to read. Both the Header and Footer are optional, so you can choose to include one, both, or neither.
Note: The Header and Footer characters count toward your SMS Characters Used, so keep them concise!
Why use an SMS Header or Footer?
Headers and Footers are useful for adding commonly used phrases to your messages.
For example:
- Header: You might add “From My Company Ltd” so recipients immediately know the message is from your business.
- Footer: A typical footer might be “Reply STOP to OptOut,” ensuring that recipients can easily unsubscribe, which is essential for compliance with Spam Act regulations for promotional messages.
How do I set a Header or Footer?
You can enable the Header and Footer in your TNZ Dashboard. Follow these steps:
- Log into the TNZ Dashboard at my.tnz.co.nz
- From the menu, select Users
- Click on a user in the list (you can set this for your user or any other user)
- Select Edit/Modify
- Navigate to the SMS tab
- Enable SMS Template
- Insert your chosen SMS Header and Footer text
- Click Update
For more information on other available options in the dashboard, see Adding A User.
What happens next?
Once your Header and/or Footer are set up:
- Dashboard SMS: When using the 'Send SMS' feature in the Dashboard, the Header and Footer will appear in your message, and you can edit them before sending.
- API, Email-to-SMS, and Other Integrations: If you're sending messages via API (including REST and FTP APIs), Email-to-SMS, App Integrations, Quick SMS, or Conversations in the Dashboard, your Header and Footer will automatically be added to your messages without any additional steps.
